Centered on Jesus: Scripture

This Sunday, we will begin a summer-long series focused on centering ourselves on Jesus. When we look to Jesus, how does he help us better understand _(fill in the blank)_ This summer, we will fill in that blank with several topics: Scripture, Community, Peace, Immigration, Service, God, Holy Spirit, Hospitality, Healing, and Hope. One central conviction for us to embrace is: as we center ourselves on Jesus – his life, teaching, death, and resurrection – we will understand more fully how to live as God intends.

This week, we’ll be looking at Scripture through the “Jesus-lens.” As you prepare for gathered worship, read through Luke 24:13-35 and consider the following questions:

  • What do you think Jesus told the two traveling companions in Luke 24:27?
  • How does Jesus help us understand all of Scripture?
  • What does it mean that Jesus fulfills the law and prophets (Matthew 5:17)?
  • What passages from the Old Testament can you think of that fit really well with the life and teaching of Jesus? What passages don’t seem to fit as well?

Feel free to post related thoughts or questions.

Peace, Phil
